Los Ebanos Ferry Crossing
Los Ebanos Ferry Crossing - November 2021
On November 28, 2021 Jan and I decided to ride the Los Ebanos Ferry over the Rio Grande to the Mexico side with some friends of ours from the RV resort. This is a hand operated cable ferry that travels across the Rio Grande from Los Ebanos, Tx to Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, Tamaulipas. Cable might not be the right word, as it was actually a large rope that was used to pull it across.
This ferry opened in 1950, and is the only remaining international ferry operation on the US-Mexico border.
This crossing has also been featured on the Texas Bucket List. It has also been featured on the texas Country Reporter.
We crossed over and then rode right back as the nearest town on the Mexico side is a few miles down the road. No walking that far for us on that day. The ferry crossing was enough of a thrill for us.
Below are some videos of our crossing.
The ferry can hold up to 3 cars and or trucks at a time.
